Find Colleton County Booking Photos

Colleton County jail mugshots are booking photos tied to people listed in the county jail's current public roster. A search for Colleton County booking photos should start with the official custody roster, then move to sheriff records or a public-records request if the person is no longer listed. The roster photo is a custody record, not proof that a person was convicted. State law also draws a line between official booking-photo access and commercial pay-to-remove publishing. The useful record is the official jail or court source, not a reposted image from a third-party site.

Colleton County Jail Mugshots

The official Colleton County current-inmates roster displays booking photos for publicly listed people in custody. The roster is run through the Zuercher/Public Safety Suite Pro portal linked by the Colleton County Sheriff's Office. The public roster configuration includes mugshot as a visible column, and the inspected public endpoint returned a mugshot field as base64 image data. That means the official online roster is the first place to look for a Colleton County jail mugshot when a person is currently held at the Colleton County Detention Center.

No separate official recent-bookings gallery or daily booking-photo report was located in the research. The county uses the current-inmates roster rather than a stand-alone mugshot board. The roster also does not publish a fixed retention period for photos after release. Its disclaimer says information may be updated periodically, may change quickly, and may contain factual or other errors. Treat the roster as a current custody view, then use sheriff records or FOIA for copies that are no longer visible online.

Find Colleton County Mugshots

The official route is the Colleton County Current Inmates roster. Search by name first, then use arrest date or held-for agency when a common name returns too many records. The public roster shows the photo beside identity and custody fields. If the roster does not show a person, the next step depends on why. The person may have bonded out, transferred, been released, moved to SCDC after sentencing, or never been held in the Colleton County Detention Center.

The official Colleton current-inmates roster is the county source for public booking photos while a record is listed.

  2. Search by last name, then compare age, arrest date, race, sex, and held-for agency.
  3. Open the matching roster row and review the mugshot, hold reasons, bond label, and judge text if shown.
  4. If the person is not listed, call the detention center at 843-549-5742 for current custody confirmation.
  5. For an older or unavailable photo, contact Records at 843-549-1203 or ccso-records@colletoncounty.org, or send a FOIA request to ccso-foia@colletoncounty.org.

Colleton Booking Photo Fields

A Colleton County booking photo is shown with a limited public inmate profile. The public view is more than an image, but it is not a full booking file. The roster does not show a booking number in the inspected sample, full date of birth, fingerprints, medical notes, property, full housing assignment, or court date. The most important non-photo field is hold reasons because it may describe warrants, bond type, bond amount, issuing jurisdiction, arrest date, and judge.

FieldWhat It Shows
MugshotPublic booking image stored in the roster data and displayed with the inmate row.
NameLast, first, middle format, often in all caps.
Race and sexPublic demographic labels from the jail record.

Are Colleton Mugshots Public?

South Carolina law does not create a blanket ban on official jail roster mugshots. Colleton County's roster publishes booking photos for current public inmate records. The legal limit that matters most for mugshot searches is the state's rule against commercial exploitation of arrest and booking records. South Carolina Code Title 17, Chapter 1 includes a booking-record and booking-photo commercial publication law. It bars charging a fee to remove, revise, or refrain from posting qualifying arrest and booking records, including booking photographs, and requires qualifying removal within 30 days after a proper request.

State mugshot law: South Carolina regulates commercial publication of arrest and booking records, including booking photographs, and targets pay-to-remove practices.

South Carolina FOIA gives public-record access unless an exemption applies, while the sheriff's FOIA page controls local request routing and fees.

What Colleton Photos Show

The public can see the mugshot only when the inmate record is public and the roster is displaying it. The roster may withhold or limit some data, including juvenile information, full date of birth, exact housing, full booking documents, fingerprints, medical details, and investigative material. A photo also does not confirm that the person was convicted. It confirms only that the person was booked into the jail record represented by the roster entry at the time the public data was displayed.

What is and isn't public: Current roster photos, names, age, arrest date, held-for agency, and hold reasons may be public. Full booking files, juvenile details, body-camera video, protected investigations, and nonexisting custom reports may be withheld or require FOIA review.

Request Colleton Booking Photos

For a booking photo that is not online, use the Colleton County Sheriff's Office records or FOIA process. The sheriff's FOIA page directs requests to ccso-foia@colletoncounty.org and links a 2026 FOIA Request Form. The records unit can be reached at 843-549-1203 and ccso-records@colletoncounty.org. South Carolina FOIA allows public access to public records with exceptions, and Colleton posts a 10-working-day availability determination rule, excluding weekends and legal public holidays.

Request language should be specific. Include the person's full name, arrest date if known, held-for agency, and the document sought, such as "booking photograph" or "public booking record." If the request is about live custody rather than a copy, call the detention center at 843-549-5742 first. FOIA fees may apply: the sheriff page lists $25 per hour for search, retrieval, and redaction, plus copy or media costs such as USB, disc, and page-copy charges.

Mugshot Removal Records

Removal questions should start with the official record, not a commercial repost. If a Colleton County charge was dismissed, declined, or otherwise eligible for clearing, the court and solicitor process controls the legal record. South Carolina expungement statutes route many applicants through the solicitor's office in the circuit where the charge originated. For the court side of dismissed or expunged charges, see Colleton County court records after a jail arrest. The jail cannot turn a non-eligible case into an expunged record by removing a photo from a public roster.

The state booking-photo law also matters when a commercial publisher demands payment to remove a mugshot. South Carolina law makes it unlawful to charge a fee to remove, revise, or refrain from posting qualifying arrest and booking records. It also requires qualifying removal after the publisher receives a proper request. That law does not mean every official jail photo vanishes on demand. It targets paid removal and commercial publication conduct.

State and Federal Photos

County jail mugshots are not the same as state prison or federal detainee photos. After a Colleton case results in a state prison sentence, the county roster may no longer be the right source. The South Carolina Department of Corrections locator displays photographs and public information for people currently sentenced to and incarcerated in SCDC as of midnight the previous day. It excludes county detention, released SCDC inmates, juveniles in protected categories, parole and probation, and current fugitives.

Federal systems are different. The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present, but federal booking mugshots are not published the way Colleton's county roster photos are. ICE searches use the Online Detainee Locator System by A-number or biographical details for adult immigration detention. A federal or immigration hold may appear in a local custody record, but the photo and locator rules come from the responsible system.

Colleton Mugshot Record Context

A booking photo should be read with the rest of the record. The jail roster may list a warrant, bond, court hold, or agency hold that explains why a person is detained, but the formal filed charge and case outcome are court records. A person can be booked, have a photo published, and later have the charge amended, dismissed, or resolved in a way that differs from the initial roster text. For the custody side of the search, the Colleton County inmate records page covers roster fields, current custody, and fallback channels.

Note: No official Colleton sheriff mobile app was located in the research, and no commercial mugshot site is an official source.
